The entry and assessment process

Stage One (for all entrants)

A written submission is required for all categories, answering questions around key outputs and outcomes and giving you an opportunity to tell us about your achievements and what sets you apart.

Please note, you may also attach additional supporting information in the form of survey/feedback data, testimonials from clients/customers/staff, press cuttings, and pr/marketing materials etc. This must not exceed 4 sides of A4 or 1000 words in total. If you are embedding website links, these will be noted but not studied by the assessment team as this stage is about capturing information through the written process and within the word count. Links to videos are not permitted and will not be viewed.

Once you’re started on your written submission, you’ll be able to save, edit and amend it until you’re completely happy that you have supplied all the information required and are ready to submit and pay for your entry.

Before submitting, please make sure you attach a high-resolution company logo (no less than 300dpi) and, if you are entering the Outstanding Individual category, please also attach an image of the nominated individual.

All entries must be received no later than 5pm on Wednesday 6th September 2017.

All submissions will be assessed by external, independent panels charged with the task of drawing up a shortlist for each category. These will be the Active Training Awards 2017 Finalists.

Finalists will be announced on Thursday 12th October 2017. This will be posted on the Active Training Awards website and each entrant will receive an email to confirm the status of their entry. 3. Large Employer of the Year (851+ employees)

All Finalists will receive guidance from ukactive on what should be included in the presentation and the topics they should be prepared to answer questions on. The identity of the expert panellists will be released prior to the panel presentations.

The Public Vote (for category 10 only)

Finalists for the Outstanding Individual of the Year category will go to a public vote. There will be a voting platform on the Active Training Awards website where members of the public can register a vote for the finalist they deem most worthy of winning the award.

Information about each nominee will be taken directly from the Stage One written submissions and posted on the Active Training Awards website with the photo supplied. Finalists will be encouraged to promote the voting process via their social media channels.

Voting is strictly limited to one vote per person, is monitored to assure fair play and will take place between 12th October – 26th October 2017.

Top tips for your Stage One submission

A written submission is required for all categories at Stage One; below you’ll find a couple of top tips to ensure you submit a winning application!

  • Please note that there is a different template with different questions for each category. Make sure you complete the correct template for the category you are entering and that you answer all the questions.
  • A maximum word count is stipulated for each section of the written submission and for any supporting information you choose to include; please be sure to stick to this and don’t overload the judges. Choose wisely and remember that often, less is more!
  • If you have entered previously, there are no restrictions and you may do so again. Do however note that assessors will expect to see up-to-date information that covers the last 12 months – no copying and pasting from previous applications please!
  • And finally… remember that the judges can’t read minds or between the lines; if you’ve done something great, tell them about it and be as clear and succinct as you can.
