It was a privilege to be awarded the 2016 UK active Activity Champion, not least because my colleagues, peers and those whom know of my work had voted. On a personal note, it’s great to know that what you do day-in, day-out, in some small way, has a positive impact upon our industry. In that vein, the acknowledgment has encouraged me to keep doing what I am passionate about and to seek other means to share knowledge and the ideas I’ve gathered. The health and fitness industry is fast-paced and forever evolving; indeed, there has never been a time where more information has been available to professionals and the lay-public, and I continue to relish the challenge to help people make sense of it all.

We are delighted to have been awarded the Health and Wellbeing – Targeted Population Award in recognition of our employment scheme in Kingston, which aims to offer employment and skills development opportunities to young people with learning disabilities. A learning need does not have to be a barrier to employment and health and wellbeing fulfilment for individuals who are interested in leisure as a career choice. As a social enterprise this award demonstrates our commitment to making a positive impact on the communities we serve and we hope that the raised awareness from this award will help to showcase the importance of these types of programmes and the positive impact that they can have on not just the individual but also their families.

We LOVED being a part of the Active Training Awards process, it was a way to test our mettle and mix it up with some of the biggest fitness organisations in the world (and win! - Innovative Training Programme of the Year ). We learnt a lot, we made great connections and finally had the industry recognition that our programme was the most innovative in the industry. It gave us great confidence and it's something we are extremely proud of until this day. If you have a great product/programme/system that you're proud of and you like to test yourself, go for it! You won't regret it.

It was fantastic to receive the 2016 Best Use of Technology Award. We have spent a great deal of time and energy getting our online material learning and app right. We want our students to be able to access course material anytime and anyplace making study as easy and realistic for them as possible. It’s great to have our hard work recognised and as the industry is constantly changing, adapting and embracing technology, we will continue to work hard to offer the best platform for students possible.

We are very proud to have won the Employer of the year Award in 2016 for our Supervisors Academy development scheme. We were the first employer to map, design and deliver a CIMPSA L3 Leisure Management Qualification for our workforce to upskill and enable growth and succession planning. It is fantastic to receive national recognition for this training scheme and to benefit from all of the positive external PR, networks and connections that comes with being a winner. We also found real benefit in intertwining the award application process with our learners.
